Bible: Mark 16:15-20, Luke 24:50-51, Acts 1:4-11
After Jesus came alive again, his friends saw him many times for 40 days. When it was time for Him to go back to Heaven, Jesus told His friends some very important things. He gave them some rules to follow while He was gone.
1. Rule number one: stay in Jerusalem until I give you my special gift. Jesus was going to give them a very special gift–the gift of the Holy Spirit. God doesn’t want to live in a tent or a temple. He wants to live inside our hearts. All who follow Jesus get the Holy Spirit to live in their hearts. Why is it important? The Holy Spirit is going to give them God’s power to do the things God wants them to do. Like: heal people, give them courage when bad things happen, and even protect them from snake bites–and much more. God will give us everything we need to do what He wants us to do for Him.
2. Rule number Two: Tell the world about the “Good News” of Jesus. Israel wasn’t the only people to be saved, but God wants the whole world. Even people that didn’t know the one true God. This is called the “Great Commission.” Jesus said, “Go into all the world. Preach the good news to everyone. 16 Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who does not believe will be punished…” (Mark 15:15-16) What is the Great Commission: To tell everyone about Jesus!
How do you tell people about Jesus?
1. We have to ask Jesus to live in our hearts.
*Believe Jesus: with your mouth, brain, and heart (Stick the word Believe on your mouth, brain and heart)
*Live what you believe: Obey Him and Do His work
2. Live what you believe with your mouth, brain, heart and body. How do you tell people about Jesus? Everything you say, think and do is telling people about Jesus. The question is not what to tell them. The question is what are you telling them?
After Jesus gave the disciple these instructions, He floated-up off the ground and up to Heaven. When He disappeared behind the clouds, the disciples kept looking into the ski! They kept looking and looking and looking. Finally, two men dressed in white appeared among them. They said, “why do you keep looking at the sky? Jesus is in Heaven, but He will come back again!” They went and did the two things Jesus told them to do. 1. Wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit 2. Tell everyone about Jesus with your mouth, brain, heart, and body.
What are you telling People about Jesus Game?
What do you tell people about Jesus if you steal a cookies?
What do you tell people about Jesus if you let someone go first? (when you want to)
What do you tell people about Jesus if you share your candy bar?
What do you tell people about Jesus if you don’t share your toy?
What do you tell people about Jesus if you tell someone they look nice today?
You tell people about Jesus when let Jesus into your heart and you live what you believe with your words in your mouth, with the thoughts in your brain and with the things you do with your body.
Important Point: “Great Commission” is to tell everyone about Jesus. Let Jesus into your heart and do what you believe with your mouth, brain, heart and body.
